Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about MatterPD.
Is the software cloud-based or locally installed?
MatterPD is cloud-based and only requires an up-to-date browser to run.
Can multiple users collaborate in real-time?
Yes, two users can work simultaneously, but you’ll need to refresh the page to see each other's updates.
Does the software support large datasets?
MatterPD can handle large models, though complex calculations may take longer. We’re working on improvements for faster results and handling bigger datasets.
Is the software customizable for different user needs?
MatterPD is designed for designers and is most effective for modeling at a high level. Additional features for other users are in development.
How does MatterPD handle data transparency?
The software provides traceability for impacts down to secondary data (currently from ecoinvent).
Can MatterPD model specific environmental impacts (e.g., biodiversity, water scarcity)?
Currently, impacts are limited to the ReCiPe (H) endpoints for human health, ecosystems and resources, along with IPCC GWP 100 (total), cumulative (or embodied) energy demand, and ReCiPe (H) midpoint for water consumption.
Does MatterPD integrate with other tools or databases?
We’re currently working on an integration with AutoDesk, but it doesn’t yet integrate with other tools.
How does the software handle uncertainty and sensitivity analysis?
Results include uncertainty by default, helping designers focus on critical areas. Sensitivity analysis is possible by duplicating models.
Does MatterPD comply with any environmental standards?
Results from MatterPD can be conformant with ISO 14040 and 14044. Most (if not all) PEFCRs and PCRs require a different impact assessment method than the one that comes standard with MatterPD. We will be able to implement custom impact assessment methods soon.
What industries or sectors is MatterPD best suited for?
MatterPD is ideal for the design of manufactured goods, such as consumer products and furniture. It’s less suited for chemical processing or end-of-life modeling.
What kind of customer support is available?
Technical support is included with the license. Additional modeling and coaching support are available for an extra fee.
How frequently are updates and new features released?
We update the software, methodologies, and features regularly, with updates included in the monthly fee. Larger updates may take longer to implement.
Is training available for users?
Training is available for an additional fee. We offer an "Applied LCA in MatterPD" course, with self-paced courses expected later this year.
